How's your German? "Physikalische und Chemische Vorgange Bei Der Verbrennung im Motor--Schriften der Deutschen Akademie der Luftfahrtforschung, Heft 9" translates "Physical and chemical Vorgange on the Combustion in the Engine-Writings of the German Academy of Aeronautics Research, Issue 9". The title explains what the book is about, I hope. (Thank you Bing Translator!) Published in Berlin in 1939, it opens with a photograph of General Goring, President of the German Academy of Aeronautics Research. Interesting note: The bookplate in the front of the book declares it a gift from the publisher to The Engineering Societies Library. This particular edition is cloth bound hardback, lightly soiled, missing cloth on spine and stamped Oct 6 1944 on the front. Condition of contents in good. Aeronautical Engines
Francis John Kean gave us this manual, "Aeronautical Engines--A Critical Survey of Current Practice with Special Reference to the Balancing of Inertia Forces" which contains 31 plates, including 78 illustrations. Published in 1916, this is one of the first definitive books on aeroplane engines and was simultaneously published by Spon & Chamberlain in New York and E. & F. Spon, Ltd. in London. Chapters include The Nature of the Problems, Classification of Aeroplane Engines, Relative Advantages of Different Types of Aeroplane Engines, Choosing the Number of Cylinders, Balancing the Sliding Parts of the Engine, Carburation, Ignition, and Typical Aeroplane Engines. What a little treasure this is-"The Little Wonder Book of Airplanes" by Maria Ellen Johnson. It is a staple papger back and number 113 in the series. This darling book has been loved and commented on by a little girl named Donna as you will see on the cover. She has made a few light pencil notations on a few of the inside pages as well. Some of the inner pages are loose from their staples but in place. Otherwise, this 1949 edition is a gem and is a glimpse of air travel of the era and written on a child's level. $6.99.
